BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA)
Provides regulatory rules to protect depositors and policyholders against insolvency of a trust company, credit union, or insurance company; and to safeguard consumers against improper market conduct in the financial services and real estate industries. Does not regulate banks (they are the responsibility of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions). Administers the Pension Benefits Standards Act, which sets minimum standards for pensions in areas such as funding, disclosure to members, eligibility, vesting, survivor benefits, and portability. Serves BC. Hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. A regulatory agency of the BC Government, operated by the Ministry of Finance (MFIN).
