Free, community-based crime prevention program that partners with municipalities, regional districts, police, and Indigenous communities to promote neighbourhood security. Provides education about residential crime prevention techniques, establishes communication channels between participants and the police, and offers training in effective reporting. Community members apply to become block captains. The Block Watch Society provides coordinators and captains with guidance on best practices for maintaining their block. To create a community Block Watch Program, municipalities, regional districts, police departments, or Indigenous communities buy an annual Block Watch membership and assign a coordinator.
