Promotes a fair marketplace for consumers and businesses in British Columbia. Mandated to deliver consumer protection services throughout the province, promote fairness and understanding in the marketplace, and enforce consumer protection laws. Oversees and regulates business practices and consumer protection relating to debt collection, credit reporting, travel agencies, taxi companies, marketplace practices, funeral homes, cremation, cemeteries, pay lending, gift card legislation, and home inspection. Also oversees some aspects of consumer contracts. Responsibilities include licensing, inspections, investigations, and enforcement of consumer protection laws. Offers information and mediation services to consumers with complaints about these industries. Also classifies motion picture content and regulates the public exhibition of films and adult videos for the retail market. Hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Agency of Government of BC.
