National organization dedicated to assisting aging individuals and aging dogs across BC. Assists older adults in the care of their dogs; provides care for older dogs whose lives have been disrupted due to illness or death of a human companion; provides education about the human-animal bond and the role of companion animals in the well-being of older adults; honours the lives of dogs through commemoration; and offers bereavement support from peer volunteers by phone. Dog Care Support for Seniors provides dog walking, food delivery, basic grooming, medication administration, transportation and support for dogs during veterinary visits, foster care during moves or hospitalization, and assistance with rehoming; available through local chapters within BC. Long-Term Care for Older Dogs provides foster care for dogs in approved foster homes; adoption to approved homes; and pre-planned long term care in approved homes. Dogs eligible for long-term care are typically 10 years or older; see website for full eligibility requirements.
