Federal Indian Day School Class Action

This class action settlement provides compensation for the harms suffered by Indigenous students forced to attend Federal Indian Day Schools and Federal Day Schools across Canada. Claims for compensation processing began January 13, 2020. Gowling WLG (Canada) LLP provides legal services to survivors (funded by the federal government); call centre hours are 8 am to 6:15 pm Eastern time, seven days a week. The Claims Information Line answers questions about the claim form and claims process; hours are 5:30 am to 10 pm Eastern time, seven days a week. Information sessions are available in some communities; check website for details. Hope for Wellness Helpline provides free mental health counselling and crisis support to class members 24 hours a day, seven days a week by telephone or online chat (www.hopeforwellness.ca); service is available in Cree, English, French, Inukitut, and Ojibway.
