Habitat for Humanity Society of Greater Vancouver

Mobilizes volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Houses are sold to families with no down payment and are financed through affordable, no-interest mortgages. Families invest 500 hours of volunteer work by building a house for themselves or another family, helping out at a ReStore or at an event and/or office. Eligible families must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and Metro Vancouver residents for at least three years; see website for full requirements. The Rebuild Hub deconstructs homes for a fee and salvages house materials to be resold at a ReStore (listed independently); tax receipts are available. Serves Metro Vancouver area. Office hours are 8:30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Nonprofit society, registered charity.
