Helping Families in Need Society
Volunteer-run agency distributes basic household necessities to families and individuals in need, including women in transition, single parents on income assistance, and new immigrants/refugees. Referral required; see website for referral form. All appointments must be made through a social service agency. Items are given free of charge to individuals who can pick up; if unable to pick up, delivery fee starts at $100, depending on distance travelled. Collects new and used clothing which is forwarded to the food bank. Also collects furniture, household goods, school supplies, books, and toys. Donation drop-offs hours at warehouse are 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday to Friday; does not accept drop-offs of furniture items (minimum $85 donation required for pick-up). Also provides Christmas assistance in the form of toys. Registration fee is $20. Serves Metro Vancouver. Nonprofit society, registered charity.
