Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB)

Responsible for hearing cases and making decisions on immigration and refugee matters in accordance with the law. The Refugee Protection Division (RPD) hears and decides claims for refugee protection made in Canada in keeping with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Basis of Claim (BOC) forms are available on the website. The Refugee Appeal Division (RAD) decides appeals from decisions of the RPD to allow or reject claims for refugee protection. The Immigration Division (ID) conducts admissibility hearings for foreign nationals or permanent residents believed to be inadmissible to or removable from Canada under the law. The Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) hears appeals on immigration related matters such as refused applications, removal orders, and unfulfilled residency obligations. Administrative tribunal; operates independent from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The Western Regional Office receives and processes claims made in British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Office hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.
