Provides temporary housing for recently arrived refugee claimants on a month-to-month basis, while searching for permanent and affordable housing. Offers four small units for up to two or three people, and two units for families (up to six members). Rent is determined based on shelter allowance given by welfare. Units are equipped with a kitchenette, electric stove, refrigerator, closet, bed, and a small dining table. Additionally, units come with kitchen utensils, bedding, and furniture. Kinbrace also provides a shared space for community meals, celebrations, workshops or various gatherings. Also provides accompaniment for refugee claimants to find and access appropriate resources for their needs and interests; assists refugee claimants with accessing financial resources, learning about the Canadian workplace, creating a personalized career roadmap, becoming employment ready, and pursuing a career in Canada. A referral is required from BC CHARMS. Also collaborates with key agencies to increase access to justice for refugee claimants across Canada by providing engaging, personalized, multilingual public legal education and information. Not wheelchair accessible. Office hours are 10 am to 4 pm on Monday to Friday.
