Native Women's Association of Canada (NWAC)

Develops concrete actions and activities to enhance, promote, and foster the social, economic, cultural, and political well-being of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit women, girls, and gender diverse people in Canada. Activities revolve around education, tools for communities, partnerships, and community responsiveness. Aims to strengthen the response of communities, government, educators, and service providers on issues of violence against Indigenous women and girls. Works to support Indigenous women, girls, families, and communities in developing violence prevention strategies and respond to experiences of violence. Elder and Knowledge Keeper Support program assists family members who have been impacted by the loss of a missing or murdered loved one through trauma-informed emotional support, reporting and form completion, and assistance navigating the Safe Passage website. Also works to raise awareness about issues of sexual exploitation and human trafficking of Indigenous women and girls in Canada. Funded in part by Status of Women Canada. Nonprofit society.
