Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI)

Independent agency resolves disputes between participating banking services and investment firms and their customers if they can't solve disputes on their own. Investigates complaints about most banking and investment services and products including mishandled accounts, misleading information or inappropriate advice; common issues include debit and credit card fraud, mortgage prepayment penalties, suitability of investments, and transaction disputes. May recommend compensation up to a maximum of $350,000 for an individual or small business. Services are free to consumers. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Eastern time, Monday to Friday.
