Community legal clinic offers free unbundled legal services to low-income, self-identified women and gender diverse people in the areas of family law, limited non-urgent immigration applications for permanent residence on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, and assistance with first stage filing of human rights and police complaints, as well as assistance with replacing ID or correcting name or gender markers for identity documents for Trans/Non-Binary folks, or for Indigenous name reclamation. Clients must be dealing with legal matters that fall within the jurisdiction of BC courts, and not currently receiving legal aid or retaining a lawyer. Services may include discrete tasks such as writing letters, drafting pleadings, attending mediations or family case conferences or judicial case conferences, preparing a self-represented client for Provincial Court, and in a very small number of cases, representation at select court appearances in Provincial Court. Clients outside of Metro Vancouver can access the Virtual Legal Clinic through the same intake process. Determination of what services can be provided will be made at the first meeting, based on Rise's capacity, case complexity, and timeframe required. Appointments are required and the intake process starts with an online request form .
