Pregnancy outreach program provides health and social service support to women in the Vancouver Downtown Eastside who are dealing with a current or recent history of substance abuse, and are pregnant or parenting infants/toddlers younger than 18 months. Helps women have healthy pregnancies and positive early parenting experiences, and offers a safe, accessible, and welcome drop-in environment. Services for Sheway clients include a medical clinic, alcohol and drug counselling, prenatal and postnatal care, immunizations, and STI/HIV counselling and testing, as well as harm reduction supplies (including a needle exchange, injection supplies, safer sex supplies, and Take Home Naloxone Kits (Narcan)). Also provides parenting support and classes, an infant development program, First Nations support services, a community kitchen, music therapy, advocacy, and community referrals. Also assists with fulfilling basic needs through daily hot lunches, food coupons, food bags, prenatal vitamins, formula, clothing, and baby supplies when available. Drop-in hours are 10:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday; accepts self-referrals by women dropping in for intake. Medical clinic hours are 9:30 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm Monday to Friday; clinic staff are also available by phone during these hours. Offered in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCH), Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), Vancouver Aboriginal Health Society (VAHS), YWCA of Vancouver, and Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (MSDPR).
