Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) are open to the public for temporary respite from the cold, washrooms, prayer, meditation, and hot vegetarian meals. Everyone is welcome, regardless of religion, gender, race, class, or any other factor. Individuals must remove shoes inside and cover their head. No alcohol or drugs on premises. Gurdwaras do not have facilities or dedicated outreach staff to serve as warming centres or shelters; however, anyone is welcome to enjoy a hot vegetarian meal, sit quietly in the prayer hall, and get some temporary respite from the cold. Addresses and contact information for gurdwaras across BC can be found on this website. Hours vary; some locations are 24 hour. Gurdwaras are located in 100 Mile House, Abbotsford, Burnaby, Campbell River, Duncan, Fort St James, Golden, Houston, Kelowna, Kitimat, Lake Cowichan, Mackenzie, Merritt, Mission, Nanaimo, New Westminster, Penticton, Port Alberni, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, Richmond, Squamish, Surrey, Thornhill, Vancouver, Victoria, and Williams Lake.
