Spectrum: Mother's Support Society

Provides support for mothers including those who are pregnant and live on the North Shore with children under the age of five. Trained individuals who act as caregivers and mentors are available for free of charge for mothers and children in their home. Trained and experienced pre- and post-partum doulas are also available to work with clients during pregnancy and a few weeks after delivery. Priority goes to low-income families which may include teenage mothers and new immigrants, as well as mothers of children with disabilities, developmental delays, or behavioural challenges. Mothers may be dealing with physical or mental health issues, suffering from postpartum depression or abusive relationships, or are dependent on drugs and alcohol. Referrals are accepted from any professional working with families living on the North Shore. The referring agency, mothers, and Spectrum work together to ensure that optimum support is provided and to liaise with other resources as required. Nonprofit society, registered charity.
