Provides services and programs to Japanese-Canadian adults ages 55 and over in Japanese and English. Services include information and resources in Japanese and English, Japanese language library, fitness and recreational activities, educational seminars, and help with government-related paperwork such as tax returns, and applications for pensions, BC Housing, and financial assistance. Other programs include telephone buddies, care facility visits, and separate Japanese and English support groups for family caregivers of people with dementia. Some services are offered virtually by Zoom and telephone. Also offers support services to help seniors live more independent, healthy, and enjoyable lives, including telephone medical interpretation for short doctor appointments/medical exams or pharmacy visits, and Meals on Wheels bento lunch of Japanese menu items; these services require an assessment interview and there are service fees. The Medical Transportation Service provides transportation, with accompaniment as requested, to Japanese-speaking Metro Vancouver seniors ages 55 and over for medical appointments and other non-medical appointments. Service and booking hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday, except holidays. Service includes support for clients with dementia, assistance with toileting, and space for personal attendant. Can accommodate scooter and service animals. Transportation is by car with volunteer or paid driver, and advanced booking is strongly recommended. Minimum 48 hours notice is required to cancel a trip. Pre-assessment is required. Cost to client is $55 for two hours, with an additional $10 per 30 minutes for longer outings, and clients are responsible for parking costs; clients pay directly for each trip. Service provided in English and Japanese. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Funding includes City of Vancouver, and United Way BC (UWBC) Healthy Aging Program Therapeutic Activation Programs for Seniors (TAPS). Nonprofit society, registered charity.
