Vancouver Island Counselling Centre for Immigrants and Refugees (VICCIR)

Provides counselling services and support to child, youth, and adult immigrants and refugees who are survivors of displacement, war, or migration, and are suffering from the effects of trauma and loss. Offers individual, couple, family, and group counselling, as well as support groups. Counselling is available on a sliding fee scale; counselling for refugees and CUET visa holders (Ukrainian newcomers) is free during their first year in Canada. Trained interpreters speak a variety of languages. Referral accepted from self or others, including settlement agencies, sponsorship groups, schools, or government ministries. Referrals accepted daily, including on weekends if urgent. Also provides public education and consultation, training, and support to service providers regarding immigrant and refugee mental health. Serves residents of Vancouver Island and other parts of BC where mental health services for non-English speaking immigrants and refugees do not exist. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Thursday.
