Provides books, ebooks, DVDs, audiobooks, CDs and other material for loan to the public, as well as programs, special events, and free classes for children, teens, and adults. Free public computing and wireless access are available at all locations. Multilingual collections are available in 16 languages and all locations offer Indigenous books, graphic novels, DVDs, and music CDs for children, teens, and adults. In addition to ebooks and downloadable audiobooks, VPL offers access to digital newspapers and magazines, streaming music and video, online research guides, digitized historical photographs and community stories across a broad range of subjects including job search and career resources, ESL and language learning materials, resources to support small businesses and entrepreneurs, and collections supporting genealogy and local history research. Unique services at Central include the Inspiration Lab (studios and equipment for recording, digitizing, creating and editing content); Sun Life Financial Musical Instrument Lending Library (which welcomes instrument donations); and Special Collections. In partnership with VPL, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) offers in-person orientation and reference services to the public through the Special Collections Reading Room on Level 7. Central Library hours are 9:30 am to 8:30 pm Monday to Thursday, 9:30 am to 6 pm Fridays, 10 am to 6 pm Saturdays, and 11 am to 6 pm Sundays. Service available in person, and via the telephone, email, and internet. In addition to the Central Library and Accessible Services, VPL offers service through a network of 20 branch libraries located across the city.
