WISH Drop-in Centre Society
Provides a drop-in centre for self-identified women who are street-based sex trade workers age 19 and over. Offers basic needs support, health care services, referrals, hot meals, clean clothing, showers, condoms, harm reduction supplies, personal care items, access to a computer, and a living room area. Provides daily breakfast from 7 am to 9 am; dinner from 6 pm to 8 pm; an overnight meal at 1 am; and snacks at 10:30 am, 10 pm, and 1 am. Offers a Literacy Program and Music Therapy as well as a Transitions Program for women seeking to change their lives and need support to do so. WISH Learning Centre provides an opportunity for women to upgrade their education, learn computer skills, engage in arts and crafts, and write letters, journals, and poetry. Mobile Access Project (MAP), a van sent out to provide outreach support, supplies snacks and referrals to women working on the street; operates from 12 noon to 6 pm and 11 pm to 5 am daily. Supportive Employment Program (SEP) provides women with opportunities to develop skills, experience, and confidence within a safe working environment at WISH. The goal is to support women seeking to increase mainstream employment opportunities and decrease reliance on sex work. Centre drop-in hours are from 6 pm to 12 noon daily. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Nonprofit society, registered charity.
COVID19 Update (May 25, 2020): Until further notice, WISH is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the outdoor space open, but the drop-in centre open from 6 pm until 12 noon the following day; 25 person capacity inside the drop-in space. Services include meals, showers, emergency clothing, learning kits, hygiene kits, hand sanitizer, a mask for members, and harm reduction supplies. Take-out meals and snacks are available with pick-up times as follows: dinner from 6 pm to 8 pm, breakfast from 7 am to 9 am, and snacks at 10 pm, 1 am to 4:30 am, and 10:30 am daily. The Women's Safe Respite and Sanitation Program provides a safe space for women and access to bathrooms and showers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
