Service Description

Provides services to all self-identified women, including cis women, trans women, and two-spirit people. The drop-in centre offers advocacy, workshops, and crisis intervention to women of the Downtown Eastside, as well as free clothing, phone, showers (available until 4 pm daily), toilets, mail service, other basic necessities, and programmed activities. Offers breakfast 10 am to 11 am daily except Wednesdays, hot lunches 12 noon to 2 pm daily, and snacks at 3 pm daily. Meals and snacks are served in to-go containers but women are welcome to eat at DEWC or take them to go. Offers specialized services including mental health advocacy and victim services from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm daily. Housing Outreach Team provides services to women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, in particular those who have experienced violence or are at risk of violence. Helps women access rental housing in the private market, through support services such as referrals to housing options, information on other housing subsidies, housing search assistance, and utility bill supplements. Funded as a Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) by BC Housing. The Chinese Seniors Outreach Worker assists Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking senior women with housing, advocacy, application forms, translation, referrals, and other services on site; hours are 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm Wednesday to Saturday. All services available on a drop-in basis. Hours are 10 am to 4:45 Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursday to Sunday, and 11 am to 4:45 pm Wednesdays; closed on income assistance payment days and statutory holidays.
