Acquired Brain Injury Program

Provided by: GF Strong Rehab Centre

Service Description

Provides rehabilitation services to adults who have sustained a brain injury. Uses an interdisciplinary approach in consultation with clients and their families; aims to develop each individual's physical, cognitive, and psychosocial abilities. Inpatient services are provided regionally but outpatient services are primarily available for residents within the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority service area or when complex rehabilitation is not available in the community. Rehabilitation is goal-based and focused on transitioning back into the community; including assessment, individualized treatment, education, and referral to the community. The Early Response Brain Injury Service (ERBIS) offers an early intervention and follow-up service, available to anyone with a recent mild traumatic brain injury. The Self-Management Program provides a time-limited, community-based rehabilitation program designed to empower clients with chronic mild brain injury symptoms. Physician or nurse practitioner referrals required for all programs except ERBIS, for which self-referral is accepted.
