Service Description

Operates a no-kill shelter to temporarily house stray and surrendered animals. Animals receive effective training and have time for rehabilitation, or recovery from illnesses, before being offered for adoption to new homes. Richmond residents are eligible to receive reduced-cost spay or neuter surgeries for their cats based on need. Provides free educational material, including information on how to care for dogs, rabbits and cats, as well as the benefits of spaying and neutering. Those who want to determine their dog's breed or breed combination can pick up a DNA My Dog kit and have the test processed. Also offers free bins of rabbit waste for composting. RAPS Pet Food Bank provides pet food to low-income households; donations accepted. Also provides animal control services under contract to the City of Richmond; see municipal record for details. Walk-in hours are 12 noon to 3 pm Sundays and 12 noon to 4 pm Saturdays; by appointment hours are 12 noon to 4 pm Tuesdays and Fridays.
