Service Description

Provides a safe, secure, and supportive environment for seniors while enabling caregivers to have a period of respite and renewal. Program is geared towards seniors who may be isolated or lonely, and also for seniors living with working relatives. Support services include exercise and mental stimulation, and entertainment, as well as monitoring of medical conditions and medications, personal care, nursing support, and toileting and mobility assistance. A nutritional hot 12 noon lunch is available for $5. Transportation is available for clients from anywhere within the Saanich Peninsula north of Royal Oak Drive; return fare is $5. A shampoo and set costs $3.50 and a bath costs $10. All other program costs are covered by the Ministry of Health and by Mount Newton Centre Society. Programs run for four hours between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Applications through Island Health are required; prospective participants, assessed by a case manager, may have varying levels of physical and mental ability, but must be medically stable.
