Service Description

Delta Community Animal Shelter (DCAS) provides a safe temporary home for stray animals waiting for their owners to claim them, or are available for adoption. Provides injured and/or stray animals with transport and medical care when needed from 7 am to 10 pm, seven days a week. Also accepts or picks up deceased pets from the owner's home. Educates the public on animal care and support; responsible for ensuring the welfare and responsible pet ownership of animals in Delta. The city Bylaws Division enforces regulations of Animal Control Bylaw. Issues include aggressive/dangerous dogs, barking dogs, and off-leash dogs. The city Engineering Department will pick up deceased animals from all Delta roadways and public streets. Handles dog licensing, chicken licensing, and cat breeding permits. City of Delta and DCAS do not respond to after-hours calls about lost or found healthy stray animals and asks that finders keep the animal safe and warm until regular business hours. Call Delta Police for emergency after-hours assistance for aggressive animals posing a threat to public safety or sick/injured animals. Shelter hours are 10 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday, and 10 am to 5 pm Saturdays and Sundays. Adoption viewing hours are 12 noon to 5 pm Monday to Friday, and 12 noon to 4 pm Saturdays and Sundays.
