Service Description

The Bus Pass Program provides bus passes to eligible seniors and Persons with Disabilities (PWD). Passes can be used in communities served by BC Transit or TransLink; HandyDart is not included. Low-Income Seniors pay a $45 non-refundable annual fee and must meet one of the following criteria: age 60 years or older and on disability assistance or be the spouse of a person on disability assistance; age 60 and older living on a First Nations reserve and getting assistance from the band office; receiving Old Age Security (OAS) and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS); 65 years or older and receiving the Federal Spousal Allowance or the Federal Allowance for the Survivor; or age 65 and older and would qualify for the GIS but does not meet the Canadian 10-year residency rule. Passes are valid January 1 to December 31 (fee is not pro-rated for applicants applying part way through the year). Eligible Persons With Disabilities (PWD) on disability assistance automatically receive a monthly transportation supplement that can be used towards a monthly bus pass or use the money towards other forms of transportation outside of the bus pass program. Individuals can switch to a bus pass at any time and the bus pass will be valid for the subsequent month. Passes can also be cancelled at any time and the supplement will be in the next assistance payment. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday; state language on phone for interpretation services.
