Service Description

Assists New Westminster seniors age 60 and over who are in general good health, but require help with non-medical daily tasks to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities. Services include light housekeeping, grocery shopping, transportation and friendly phone calls. Services are free or on a sliding scale based on income. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).

The Medical Transportation Program provides transportation to medical appointments for New Westminster residents ages 60 and over. Drivers will only pick up from New Westminster residences but will transport clients to appointments throughout the lower mainland. Provides support for clients with dementia; clients must be able to get in and out of the vehicle on their own. Space is available for a personal attendant and vehicles can accommodate a foldable walker or foldable wheelchair. Service hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday; trips must be booked during service hours, a minimum of one week in advance. Client intake is done by phone. Multiple appointments are not permitted in one trip, but booking of regular trips is permitted. 24 hours' notice is required to cancel a trip. Cost to client is $15 per return trip for appointments within New Westminster; an additional 80 cents per kilometre is added for trips outside of New Westminster. Parking fees are extra. Clients are invoiced. Transportation provided by volunteer drivers in personal cars, and service is delivered in English. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
