Better at Home - Vancouver (South)

Service Description

Assists seniors age 55 and over who are in general good health, but have mobility issues and require help with non-medical daily tasks to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities. Services include grocery shopping, friendly visits, snow shovelling, minor home repairs, light yard work, light housekeeping, and transportation (details below). Fees are charged for some services on a sliding scale (based on income). Serves Vancouver South. Program hours vary; office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Program is run in partnership with Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS). Funding is provided by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).

Volunteer driver service is available across Metro Vancouver for all purposes for seniors ages 65 and up with mobility issues. Service includes help with vehicle entry/exit, space for personal attendant, and can accommodate walkers. Service hours are flexible. Pre-registration and advance booking of two business days is required; intake requires a home visit. Cost to client depends on household income, with sliding scale and subsidy available; clients pay direct. Interpretation service may be available. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.
