Better at Home - Vancouver (West End)

Service Description

Assists older adults age 55 and over who are in general good health, but require help with non-medical daily tasks to maintain independent living within their homes and remain connected to their communities. Services may include grocery shopping, light housekeeping and yard work, minor home repairs, friendly visits, and transportation to medical and non-medical appointments (details below). Fees are charged for some services on a sliding scale (based on income). Serves the West End and Coal Harbour neighbourhoods of Vancouver. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).

Also provides transportation to seniors ages 55 and over in Vancouver for medical appointments and other non-medical appointments. Individuals must be a resident of the West End or Coal Harbour neighbourhood. Can accommodate a walker or wheelchair, depending on vehicle. Serves Greater Vancouver; pick-up and drop-off location is not limited. Service hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Transportation for medical and non-medical appointments is by volunteer-driven car, with pick-up and drop-off. Booking is required at least five days in advance; booking hours are 9 am to 5 on Monday to Friday. A minimum of 24 hours notice cancellation is required. Pre-registration is required through West End Seniors' Network. Cost to client is free, and clients are responsible for parking costs; donations are welcome. Service is provided in English. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
