Burnaby Housing and Outreach Hub

Provided by: Progressive Housing Society

Service Description

Homeless Hub is a drop-in centre that provides support services to the homeless, including meals (breakfast at 9 am, lunch at 12 noon, and a bagged meal at 3:30 pm), a cooking club, shower and laundry facilities (from 9 am to 2 pm), a seniors group, a support group for women, and board games and books. Also provides a drug checking service and mobile public health on site for STI testing. Hub hours are from 9 am to 4:30 pm daily. The Homeless Outreach Program (HOP) provides outreach to individuals who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, or difficult to house. Outreach workers determine housing needs, and provide referrals to services to meet immediate needs such as emergency shelter, food, clothing, and blankets. Also provides help with obtaining identification and income assistance. Connects individuals to housing options by providing support with the application, move-in process, appointments and/or housing viewings, and liaison with landlords; rent subsidies may be available to support this process. Provides links to culturally appropriate services as well as referrals to other support services, such as health care, counselling, and addiction recovery. The program aims to maintain a confidential, low-barrier, multi-faceted program that assists anyone in need of help. Offers a free lunch at 10 am on Thursdays at Southside Community Church (7135 Walker Avenue, Burnaby). The Homeless Prevention Program (HPP) focuses on the prevention of homelessness by targeting services to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness due to crisis or transition, in particular people of Indigenous descent, women who have experienced violence or who are at risk of violence, youth at risk (including those transitioning out of foster care), and individuals leaving the correctional system or hospitals. Helps individuals access rental housing in the private market through support services, such as referrals to housing options, information on other housing subsidies, housing search assistance, and rent supplements. Serves Burnaby. Funded by BC Housing.
