Service Description

Provides accompanied transportation to medical appointments for Burnaby seniors ages 65 and over (exceptions may be made). Services include help with vehicle entry/exit (client must be able to get in and out of cars, as volunteer provides stability assistance only), and space for personal attendant. Can accommodate folding walkers. Service area is Burnaby, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, and Vancouver. Service hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Booking is required seven days before trip; booking hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Booking of regular trips is permitted. Maximum of four trips per month allowed. Pre-registration required through Burnaby Community Services or Better at Home; intake is done by phone, followed by a home visit. Cost to client depends on yearly income, with subsidy available; clients are invoiced by Better at Home. Transportation provided by screened volunteer drivers in personal cars or Modo cars. Service provided in English. Waitlist is maintained; delay for accessing service varies. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Funded by Ministry of Health (MOH) and managed by United Way British Columbia (UWBC).
