Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB)

Service Description

Provides $500 per week for up to a maximum of 44 weeks between September 27, 2020 and May 7, 2022 per household for workers (including self-employed individuals): unable to work for at least 50% of the week because they must care for a child under the age of 12 or family member because schools, daycares, or care facilities are closed due to COVID-19; or because the child or family member is sick and/or required to quarantine, or is at high risk of serious health implications because of COVID-19. Eligible individuals must also:
  • Have been present in Canada
  • Be at least 15 years old
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Have earned at least $5000 in 2019, 2020, 2021 or in the 12 months before the date they applied for EI, self-employment income, or maternity and parental benefits from EI
  • Be the only person in their household applying for the benefit for the week
  • Not be receiving paid leave from their employer
  • Not also have applied for or receive the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB), short-term disability benefits, workers' compensation benefits, or Employment Insurance (EI) benefits
Eligible individuals will need to reapply each week, up to 44 weeks, if their situation continues. Weeks do not have to be taken consecutively. Deadline to apply for the final period is July 6, 2022. Applications accepted by phone or through MyCRA Account. Application line phone hours are 3 am to 12 midnight PST Monday to Sunday. General information line hours are 8 am to 8 pm (local time) Monday to Friday and 9 am to 5 pm (local time) Saturdays.
