Canadian Benefit for Parents of Young Victims of Crime

Income support grant available to eligible parents who have suffered a loss of income from taking time away from work to cope with the death or disappearance of their child or children as a result of a probable Criminal Code offence; the child must have been missing for over a week and be under the age of 25 at the time of the incident. Provides $500 per week, paid every two weeks, for up to 35 weeks of income support over a period of three years. Applicants must have earned at least $6,500 in the previous calendar year, or in the 52 weeks prior to the incident; be on leave from employment or only working up to 50 percent of their regular work week, up to a maximum of 20 hours per week; have a social insurance number (SIN); and not be receiving employment insurance benefits (EI). Phone hours are 8 am to 5 pm local time Monday to Friday.
