Canadian Dental Care Plan

Provided by: Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

Service Description

Helps to ease financial barriers to accessing oral health care for eligible Canadian residents who do not have access to dental insurance. Serves seniors who have an annual family income of less than $90,000, persons with disabilities, and Canadians ages 18 and under. Services covered include preventive, diagnostic, restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontal, and oral surgery. Eligibility criteria include having filed a tax return in the previous year. If applicant has a spouse or common-law partner, both must meet the eligibility criteria to qualify. Eligibility for children ages 18 and under will be determined by parent or guardian eligibility. Individuals who have access to dental coverage through provincial and/or federal government program can still qualify for the CDCP. Co-payment may be required, depending on adjusted family net income. Applications will open in phases, starting in mid-December 2023: letters with a personalized application code and instructions will be mailed to those who may qualify. People who think they qualify but did not receive a letter can call to apply. Phone hours of operation are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday; automated phone service is 24 hours daily. Coverage start date for service is May 2024. Program is managed by Sun Life.
