Service Description

Through phone and web-based consultation, supports community care providers with information, advice, and resources they need to deliver appropriate and timely care to children and youth with mental health and substance use concerns. Multi-disciplinary team includes child and youth psychiatrists, mental health and substance use clinicians (social workers, nurses, psychologists, etc.), and a care coordinator. Services include telephone advice and support, connection to local and online resources, assistance with referrals, telehealth consultation with the patient when needed, streamlined access to specialized services for complex cases, and practice-focused training and education. The Compass team can help with diagnostic clarification; medication recommendations; treatment planning; consultation around cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, substance use counselling, behavioural challenges, family challenges, and trauma treatment; and general support when things aren't going well. Community care providers receive a written record of all consultation recommendations for the patient's chart. Serves BC. Hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday.
