Service Description

Provides safe, secure, temporary shelter and support for women (including transgender women) with or without children, who are fleeing violent relationships or who are at risk of abuse, threats, or violence. Accepts male children up to age 18; dependents over 18 will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Accepts refugee women and women from out of the province. Length of stay is 30 days. Medium-barrier house; no substance use on premises. Gives women a safe and supportive living environment with access to daily living requirements such as clothing, toiletries, and nutritious meals. Also provides emotional support, counselling, child-minding, accompaniment, and advocacy support, as well as assists clients in accessing financial assistance, legal aid, affordable housing and child-care. Offers resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals as well as assist with the development of safety plans. 24-hour intake line also operates as a 24-hour Support Line available to women, children, and affected individuals seeking support and information about abuse. Personal identification (ID) is not required. Not wheelchair accessible. Cannot accommodate pets, but can refer to foster services in the community. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Also provides shelter to women who are in crisis and who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness, especially if children are involved.
