Service Description

Engages with specific populations in Vancouver, including those with racial, cultural, ethnic, sexual, gendered, and religious identities, to build relationships towards greater access to police services, enhanced public safety, and reduced fear of crime. Does equity and inclusion work, engaging closely with community agencies and representatives from diverse communities. Also supports VPD's movement to establish a work force that reflects Vancouver's communities, and provides training in equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural safety to all staff including front-line members. Through the Safe Place program, distributes stickers to be used on windows that identify the location as a place of shelter for anyone in the LGBTQ2S+ community who is feeling unsafe or being harassed. Through the Indigenous Cadets Program young adults are meaningfully employed for a summer by the VPD and learn about all aspects of policing. Through the Access, Recreation and Culture Youth Program, Indigenous youth can learn about policing and Indigenous culture, and receive support to obtain their driver's license.
