Service Description

Provides a safe and supportive temporary housing for women, with or without children, who are fleeing violence; accepts male children up to age 18. Accepts refugees and refugee claimants, as well as women from out of province. Medium-barrier house: women must not actively be using substances, must be detoxed a minimum of 30 days; and any present mental health diagnosis must be managed with prescribed medication. Gives women a supportive living environment with access to daily requirements such as clothing, toiletries, and nutritious meals. Services also include emotional support, crisis counselling, childrens' programs, and assistance in accessing financial assistance, legal aid, and affordable housing. Also offers resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals, as well as to assist with the development of safety plans. Personal identification (ID) is preferable. Not wheelchair accessible. Accepts pets and/or will arrange for temporary accommodation with a community partner. Priority given to women from Burnaby; open to others if space allows. Partially funded by BC Housing.
