Elder Abuse Unit

Service Description
Provides victim services to seniors who may be experiencing elder abuse or neglect within a relationship. Recognizes the unique barriers of older people who are experiencing abuse, particularly abuse from family members, or when there are mental health or other issues involved. An outreach worker builds a confidential relationship with the client, offers non-judgmental support, and helps individuals make plans to develop and increase their sense of safety. Also supports seniors through the criminal justice system, and offers brief emotional and practical support. Offered in partnership with Family Services of Greater Vancouver. Serves New Westminster residents and other seniors who have been involved in police incidents occurring in New Westminster. Office hours are 9 am to 5 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. Funded by Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General (MPSSG).
