Service Description

Bootstraps ?works with youth in and formerly connected to the foster care system to identify goals and remove barriers to employment. Participants receive wrap-around services while acquiring employment skills. Services include placement with engaged employers. Social Enterprise Employment Training Program provides eight weeks of experiential learning to help youth connected to the foster care system obtain entry level positions in the retail industry. Youth work at Aunt Leah's Thrift Store (3328 Fraser Street, Vancouver) and Aunt Leah's Donation Centre (8380 Saint George Street, Vancouver) to gain experience in customer service, inventory management, sales techniques, fashion concepts, and point of sale systems. Along with learning retail-specific skills, participants learn about goal setting, teamwork, organization, time management, communication, giving feedback, problem solving, and professionalism. Participants receive a job reference upon completion.
