Financial Assistance for Canadians Victimized Abroad

Service Description

Provides financial assistance to Canadians in a foreign jurisdiction who are victims of homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault, or assault with serious personal violence; serves individuals in situations of undue hardship where no other source of financial assistance is available. Victims, family members, or caregivers can apply for financial assistance towards travel expenses for the victim to return to Canada, for a support person to join the victim abroad, or to attend the preliminary hearing and/or trial. May also help cover related hospital and medical expenses, replacement of stolen official documents, counselling upon return to Canada, funeral expenses if the crime resulted in the victim's death, and related out-of-pocket expenses.
