Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) - Squamish

Provides free English classes for newcomers to Canada, age 17 or over, to help them gain the language and knowledge to start their new lives and settle in Canada. Funding is by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for Permanent Residents. The English Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) classes incorporate English learning with topics such as housing, banking, and transportation, as well as communication in real life and Canadian culture; CLB levels 1 to 8 are held in person in Squamish, with levels 4 to 8 offered online only. Placement of new students is determined by testing, administered through Squamish or via mobile assessment service in Gibsons, Pemberton, Sechelt, or Whistler; see separate listing. Powell River is served via remote assessment.
