Museum of Anthropology

Provided by: University of British Columbia (UBC)

Service Description

Collection includes items from the major ethnographic areas of the world, with a strong display of Northwest Coast First Nations carvings and European ceramics. A visible storage system makes the research collection accessible to the public. Programs include lectures, tours, demonstrations, and cultural events such as music and dance. The Native Youth Program provides summer employment and training to six urban Aboriginal high school students ages 15 to 18. Participants research their own and other cultures through the museum collection and online resources, and develop important knowledge, skills, and confidence for future creative and academic endeavours. See website for details and application procedures. Museum is closed until June 2024 for seismic upgrades, but behind-the-scenes tours are still offered; see website for schedule. Admission fees apply; free for members, UBC staff, students, faculty, and Indigenous peoples.
