Service Description

Transitional housing provides beds and services for women (including cis and trans women, and non-binary people) who are fleeing family violence, are newcomers or refugees, or are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Also accepts women with children (including male children up to age 12). Offers transitional housing, halal food, and essential clothing. Facilitates transition and integration into society through services such as caseworker support, counselling, form completion assistance, and the building of personal and career-related skills. Residents must be able to live independently. Not appropriate for women who are dealing with a significant mental illness, or who have dealt with substance abuse in the previous year. Capacity is nine beds. Muslim women have priority but women of other faiths are also welcome if there is room. Once an application form has been submitted, a case manager will be in contact within five business days to discuss the application and conduct a brief phone assessment. House is not wheelchair accessible. Services offered in Arabic, Farsi, French, and Urdu; interpretation can be arranged. Serves Metro Vancouver. Operates 24 hours daily; administration hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Project of Nisa Foundation.
