Office to Combat Trafficking in Persons (OCTIP)

Coordinates BC's strategy to address human trafficking into and across the province. Focus is on protection and prevention of human trafficking. Works closely with, and refers matters to the RCMP Human Trafficking BC Coordinator regarding investigation of human trafficking cases, when given a trafficked person's consent. Also refers to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the provision of a Temporary Residence Permit for presumed trafficked persons. The rights and needs of trafficked individuals are placed at the centre of any response to human trafficking. Works to develop community capacity throughout BC, in particular to assist communities to develop and coordinate services for trafficked persons based on OCTIP's service model. Provides presentations upon request about human trafficking to raise awareness about indicators of human trafficking and ways to assist a trafficked person. Also offers a free online training curriculum for service providers and members of the general public who require more information about human trafficking in BC and Canada; resources and links to services are also provided in the training. Serves BC. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.
