Service Description

Lifestyle and gentle fall prevention exercise program that is safe for those with osteoporosis and low bone mass, designed to improve strength, balance, and coordination, as well as functional ability, independence, and quality of life. Provides the link between physiotherapy and group fitness classes for those who are at risk for falls and fractures. Exercises developed in consultation with clinical specialists from BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre, and based on published medical research. Three to five month introductory program (Osteofit 1) leads to participation in Osteofit for Life Program, an ongoing exercise maintenance program. Get Up and Go Program available for very frail seniors with mobility impairments and those at high risk for falls. Offered at community centres and seniors' centres across BC; see website for locations and addresses. Referrals not required; participants are encouraged to contact community centres directly.
