Ready For My Refugee Hearing

Provided by: Kinbrace Community Society

Service Description

Assists refugee claimants to prepare for their refugee hearing through two resources. The Refugee Hearing Preparation Guide is a step-by-step brochure that educates, guides, and supports refugee claimants who are preparing for their refugee hearings. Informs and empowers service providers in their understanding of the refugee hearing preparation process. Refugee claimants and service providers learn about legal definitions and issues pertaining to refugee protection. Helps users learn strategies to prepare for the refugee hearing; complete a hearing preparation checklist; and find legal and community resources. Guide can be downloaded from the website and is available in English as well as Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, French, Sorani Kurdish, and Spanish. READY Tours prepares refugee claimants for refugee hearings by providing an explanation about what to expect during the hearing, suggestions on how to prepare for it, and a tour of the physical space; volunteers provide interpretation services. Tour is facilitated by staff from Kinbrace and the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. Priority is given to clients with scheduled hearings; pre-registration is required by phone or emailing fran@kinbrace.ca.
