SAFER (Suicide Attempt Follow-up, Education and Research)

Service Description

Works to reduce suicide risk among those in crisis, to assist family and friends who care about them, and to promote healing among those bereaved by suicide. For Vancouver residents, provides counselling for individuals age 19 and over who have made a suicide attempt, are currently suicidal, or have suicidal ideation; also offers support and education for people who are concerned about the risk of suicide in a significant other or bereaved by a suicide death. SAFER also offers training, education, and professional consultation in the areas of suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. Intake is through the Access and Assessment Centre (AAC) between 7:30 am to 11 pm daily with a live person, and a voice message after hours regarding referrals.
