Service Description

Provides safe, secure, temporary shelter and support for up to 18 women (cisgender and transgender) with or without children, who are fleeing abusive situations. Accepts male children ages 19 and under. Accepts refugees and refugee claimants, as well as women from out of province. Length of stay is typically 30 days. High-barrier house; must be three months without substance use, and/or mental health issues are well-managed. Accepts women on substitution therapy; some medication management assistance is available. Staffed 24 hour. Gives women a safe and supportive living environment with access to daily living requirements such as clothing, toiletries, and nutritious meals. Provides emotional support, child-care, bus tickets, accompaniment (police, legal, and healthcare), support with protection orders, and guardianship. As well as advocacy support, assists clients in accessing financial assistance (ID needed), legal aid, and affordable housing. Offers resource information to enable women to explore their options and define their goals as well as assist with the development of safety plans. Personal identification (ID) is not required to access house. Partially wheelchair accessible. Accepts pets on a case-by-case basis (animal can be with owner in room). Interpretation can be arranged. Also operates the 24 hour Women's Support Line which women may call for support on issues of violence, or any other concerns. Funded by BC Housing.
