Service Description

Strives to help seniors stay in their homes as long as possible. Provides free and low-cost programs designed to improve the physical and mental health of very frail and isolated seniors ages 55 and older through increased activity, peer support, and a sense of community connectedness, including Telefriend, a volunteer phone service for isolated seniors.

Through the Volunteer Medical Driver program, provides transportation to frail and/or isolated seniors in North Vancouver for medical appointments and social excursions, with door-to-door accompaniment. Individuals must be 55 and older and a resident of Upper or Lower Capilano (which includes Lower Lonsdale and Lynn Valley). Services include support for clients with mild dementia, help with vehicle entry/exit, and space for personal attendant. Can accommodate a walker. Serves the North Shore. Transportation for social excursions is a volunteer-driven bus, with door-to-door service. Bus outings combine shopping, exercise, getting together for refreshments, and socialization. A social event is offered every second Thursday of each month. Transportation for medical appointments is by car with a volunteer driver. Booking is required 48 business hours before a trip; booking hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday. Service hours are 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. Multiple appointments may be booked in one trip for medical appointments only; advanced notice required. Booking of regular trips is permitted but not guaranteed. Notice is required to cancel a trip as soon as possible. Membership and pre-registration is required through Seniors' Hub. Cost to client is free; donations are welcome. Service is provided in English. Office hours are 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.
