Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program

Service Description
Provides settlement services for immigrant and refugee students in Vancouver attending Kindergarten to Grade 12, helping them and their families to adjust and integrate into their new life in Canada including school and their community. Settlement workers provide information and referrals on services available, conduct orientation workshops, assist with form completion, link with services, accompany to community resources, help in adjusting and transitioning, and provide culturally sensitive services. Serves newcomers in English, but has cultural and language expertise in Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi, Filipino, Hindi, Korean, Mandarin, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Ukranian, and Vietnamese. Accepts school-referrals. Office and program hours are 8 am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday. Funding received from the Government of Canada.
